For My Wonderful Wife

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Nate writes:

Two years ago around Valentine’s Day my girlfriend and I were 15 years old. She had been hinting for months that she wanted me to send her flowers so near the end of January I ordered a bouquet from a popular online flower shop. They gave an option to choose a card to go with the flowers but the page wouldn’t load so I clicked the ‘no card’ option and finished my order.

V-day rolls around and I get a call from my girlfriend. She is really excited about the flowers and keeps thanking me. I’m feeling pretty awesome! But then her tone changes as she asks, “…but why did you send me a card with ‘For My Wonderful Wife’ on the cover? We’re 15 years old!” (more…)

A Change of Focus

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

The Nobody’s Listening blog is going to focus a bit. At first it existed to serve the podcast. Then, over time, I began adding links to interesting things I found on the web and a few articles here and there on podcasting and my real life. These days you’re getting any or all of those plus full-blown articles about things that are way to heavy topic-wise especially when compared to our show.

The blog is not an accurate reflection of what the podcast is. The site and show co-exist in two different forms but not in the same function. I want people to feel the same visiting this site as they do when they’re listening to the show… and vice versa.

Some of the best parts of the show have been your stories, input, comments and voice mails. I’m going to start featuring listener submitted stories, possibly with some written commentary. This will give others a chance to add your own comments and cracks. Maybe we’ll read a few of them on the show. I’m thinking about illustrating the odd story web comic style. I’d like to do more NLCastTV videos as well as Photoshop contests, photo captioning games, polls and the like. Doesn’t that seem like something the website of Nobody’s Listening Podcast would have on it? I think so too.

What ideas do you have to bring the podcast and the website closer together? Post your thoughts in the comments.

New Project: Draw You A Picture

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

com_design.jpg Most of you are familiar with my offers to ‘draw you a picture’ from our podcast. Some of you know about my website DrawYouAPicture.com where you can get artwork for almost any purpose for just $65 bucks. Well you didn’t know about this!!

For the next three months I’m going to draw pictures from ideas you suggest. Two per week on Mondays and Thursdays.

For the first round we’re going to go through the alphabet. I’d like your requests to start with the letter “A”. I will choose one suggestion, draw it up, post it on the site. Then I’ll be looking for “B” suggestions.

Examples: Adam the Acrobatic Ape, Bubbles the Bubble-blowing Baboon… or not.

Post your requests right here in the comments! You’ll see who’s got picked on Monday!

Begin!

Remember to send in your Computer stories!

Why I Quit Stumble Upon

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Why I Quit Stumble UponStumble Upon is a fabulous, amazing, genius concept. It’s better than Digg.com, better than del.icio.us, better than all of them. Stumble Upon has been very good to my podcast, Nobody’s Listening. We’ve had a lot of visits from people stumbling around the web… but I recently uninstalled the toolbar and submitted my account to be deleted.

I did it for a number of reasons.

I allowed Stumble Upon to distract me. I do not blame the service. The service does exactly what it offers. I apparently do not have the self-discipline necessary to not click that flippin’ button. I would try to control myself by hiding the toolbar but that only worked for a while. (more…)
